This educational institution enjoys the reputation of one of the most prestigious African universities and intellectual centers south of the Sahara. University of Ibadan has a well-developed infrastructure of education. Under its aegis, a large number of scientific periodicals, magazines, and collections are published.

It was founded as the foundation project of the Winners' Chapel Church (Living Faith Church) and was built in 2002. In 2006, CU had a population of 4,198 students.

The rector of the university, David Oyedepo, is at the same time president, founder, and bishop of the Winners' Chapel. The university is strictly guided by evangelical Christian principles. According to the founding vision of Oyedepo, it helps to attract a new generation of leaders. The university buildings are located in Canaanland, where the headquarters of the Winners' Chapel Church is located as well. There are three college buildings divided into 20 departments.

On the site of the ABU is a nuclear research reactor NIRR-1 (Nigeria Research Reactor 1). The 31 kW light water reactor was commissioned in February 2004 with the help of the China Institute of Atomic Energy.
