Leo Messi named 7th most influential figure in football — behind PSG president, Cristiano Ronaldo and others
- France Football have published their list of most influential icons in football.
- Leo Messi is placed in the 7th position.
- PSG president, Cristiano Ronaldo and FIFA president make the top three.
France Football — the same publication that awards the Ballon d'Or — have published their list of 50 most influential icons in football.
To everyone's surprise, Leo Messi didn't even enter the top five. Instead, he has been placed in seventh, below such figures as Cristiano Ronaldo, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Liverpool's coach Jurgen Klopp.
Here's the top 10:
- 1. Nasser Al-Khelaifi, PSG president
- 2. Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus
- 3. Gianni Infantino, FIFA president
- 4. Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager
- 5. Jorge Mendes, football agent
- 6. Andrea Agnelli, Juventus president
- 7. Lionel Messi, Barcelona
- 8. Florentino Perez, Real Madrid president
- 9. Megan Rapinoe, OL Reign
- 10. Swiss Justice
There are four more names on the list that are somehow related with the Catalans.
- 12. Pep Guardiola, ex-coach
- 16. Neymar Jr., former Barcelona player
- 29. Xavi Hernandez, club legend
- 40. Hiroshi Mikitani, CEO of Rakuten (our sponsor) and Vissel Kobe president
However, it is hard to figure out what exactly the publication took into account when putting the list together. One thing is sure — it has nothing to do with actual football, the game played on the field.
Check out the guy they have put in seventh place:
