Senator Dino Melaye is a well known Nigerian lawmakers, democratic evangelist and as well as a prominent politician. He was a former member of the Federal House of Representatives. He was once the senator representing the Kogi West Senatorial district under the umbrella of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Talking about politics in Nigeria, Dino Melaye is regarded as one of the most controversial senator currently in Nigeria. Because of his passion and focus towards the politics, he was referred to as "The Singing Senator".

Dino Melaye Early Life

Senator Dino Melaye was born on the 1st of January 1974 in the acient city of Kano state. He completed both his primary and secondary school education in Air Force Secondary School in Kaduna state. Having completed his Secondary school education and obtained his Secondary school Certificate of the, he applied and got an admission into Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in Kaduna state where he obtained his Bachelor degree in Geography.

He is known as the only senator in Nigeria to have bagged seven (7) different degrees from both local and international institutions. The senator has an M.sc in International Relations and Diplomacy, Certificate in Emerging Leaders, Security and Management amongst many others.

While still in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria as an undergraduate student, he held the position of President at the Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). Before proceeding to the Common Youth Council (CYC), he was the secretary General of the Africa Youth Council (AYC). Dino Melaye was once appointed to chair the Presidential Advisory Council on Youth by the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Dino Melaye Personal Life

Dino was once married to the love his heart, Tokunbo Melaye for ten (10) years but sadly they later got divorced. Their union is blessed with three beautiful children.

Dino Melaye Political Life

Senator Dino Melaye was elected in 2015 as a senator representing Kogi West Senator District. Before becoming a senator, he once served as a Member of the House of Representatives, representing the Kabba/Ijemu federal Constituency of Kogi state.

On the 23rd of February 2019, he contest for Kogi West Senatorial election. But unfortunately, he won under the umbrella of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) defeating his opponent, Senator Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

However, the election generates lots of misunderstanding and Dino's victory was later cancelled. The Independent National Electorial Commension (INEC) on the 16th of November 2019 conducted a fresh election for the both parties. At this time, Senator Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was ahead of the election results from most local government areas in the state and was alter announced as the elected senator.

Book – Antidotes for Corruption

Aside from his political career, he is also a writer. Dino Melaye launched his book titled "Antidote For Corruption"; The Nigerian Story on the 15th of May 2017. The launching of the book had in attendance some prominent dignitaries both within and outside the country. Some of the top politicians presents were; Senator Bukols Saraki, Dame Patience Jonathan, Yakubu Dogora, James Rawlings and as well as Prof Yemi Osinbajo amongst many others. The book "Antidote For Corruption"; The Nigerian Story cost N50,000.

Dino Melaye Awards And Recognition

In the cause of his career, he has received several awards and nominations. The politician was massively awarded for his contributions in both his constituency and as as well as Nigeria as a whole. Some of his awards includes; Protector of the Youth, PDP National Youth Vanguard, Youth Libra Award, Visionar Club of Kogi state, Best Honorable Representative of the Year, Global Youth Awareness & Developments Initiative, Most Performing Legislature Mission 2020 Youth Group, Man of the Year, Kwarafa Reporters, 2019, Senator of the Year, Weekender Magazine, 2019 amongst many other Awards.

Dino Melaye is regarded as one of the most richest and influential politicians in Nigeria as he owns many mansions and cars worth millions of naira.
