Five Things To Know About Alleged Hushpuppi's Arrest
Nigerians woke up in the early morning of Wednesday 10, June to the arrest of socialite Billionaire and internet personality, Hushpuppi. Hushpuppi has always been a source of interest and curiosity as his lavish display of wealth, although pleasing to the eye and inspiring, also begs the question of the source of his wealth. It has been widely alleged that his wealth was gotten through illicit means but no concrete evidence to prove that has been provided, so it was not too surprising when the news of his arrest spread through local and international media.
Although details of his arrest are still sketchy, these are the five things we know about Hushpuppi’s arrest.
1. IT WAS CARRIED OUT BY THE FBI
It is reported on international media that the arrest was carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigations in collaboration with Interpol. It would be recalled that earlier in 2020, a similar raid by the FBI was made on another Nigerian billionaire Mompha who was also arrested on charges of money laundering.
2. ARREST WAS MADE IN DUBAI
Hushpuppi has always been based almost exclusively in Dubai. Prior to his arrest he has always been taunted on social media for his inability to leave his base in order to avoid arrest on Nigerian or American soil. Dubai did not prove to be arrest proof for Hushpuppi because his base in Dubai was where his arrest was carried out.
3. HE WAS NOT ARRESTED ALONE
Hushpuppi was not the only personality arrested by the FBI, it is widely reported that he was taken into custody with one Mr. Woodberry, a close friend and an alleged longtime accomplice.
4. ARREST WAS MADE OVER 35 MILLION DOLLARS VENTILATOR SCAM
According to preliminary media reports, the reason for the arrest for Hushpuppi and his alleged conspirator Mr Woodbery’s was as a result of months of investigation by the FBI following a fraudulent deal that involved Hushpuppi and his crew. A video circulating around social media, states that Hushpuppi and his crew fraudulently collected the sum of $35 million for Coronavirus (COVID-19) ventilator and failed to deliver.
5. HUSHPUPPI HAS BEEN INCOMMUNICADO
After the alleged arrest, business partner and friends of Hushpuppi have tried to get in contact with him, but to no avail. Insiders report that since his arrest in Dubai at 2pm (Dubai time) all efforts to reach him has proved abortive.
