Tanzanian Star beat Davido to Becomes First Sub-Saharan African to Reach 1 Billion Views on YouTube

Nigerian celebrities are known to be dominating the music space in Africa. From Davido to Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Kiss Daniel, Simi, Adekunle Gold, defunt P. Square, Korede Bello, Maryokun, Zlatan Ibile, Olamide Baddo, Teckno and a host of others.

But surprisingly, a Tanzanian pop star, Diamond Platnumz, has knocked all Nigerian stars by being the first sub-Saharan African singer to get one billion views on YouTube, according to BBC.

Diamond Platnumz’s main competitors in the YouTube numbers game are Nigerian Afrobeats stars; P Square – 810 million; Davido – 618 million; Flavour – 617 million; Tekno – 574 million; Burna Boy – 507 million; Wizkid – 480 million.

A brief biography of this awesome Tanzanian Star

Nasibu Abdul Juma Issack (born 2 October 1989), popularly known by his stage name Diamond Platnumz , is a Tanzanian bongo flava recording artist, actor, dancer, philanthropist and a businessman from Tandale , Dar es Salaam. He is the founder and CEO of WCB Wasafi Record Label also a TV Station titled Wasafi Tv & a radio station titled Wasafi Fm. He has had several hit songs including "Number One" featuring Nigerian artist Davido. Diamond won numerous awards at Channel O, MTV Awards, Soundcity, Kilimnjaro Music Awards, Headies, Afrima, Afrimma, Kora, AEA, the HiPipo Music Awards and more.

Diamond is a Muslim. In 2010, he endorsed Tanzania's dominant ruling party, the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and its presidential candidate,

Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete. He also recorded a remix of his single "Mbagala", titled "CCM Tusonge Mbele " ("CCM Let's Move Forward").

Relationship

With his former partner, South African based Ugandan businesswoman Zari Hassan, he has two children. He had his third child with the model Hamisa Mobeto. As of 2019 Diamond is dating Kenyan model and musician Tanasha Donna, with whom they have one son, Naseeb Jr., born 2 October 2019. The two have since separated with Tanasha Donna flying back to her home country, Kenya. Diamond is the younger brother to Tanzanian socialite celeb who also does a DJ work with him, Romeo Abdul Jones alias Rommy Jones. He also has two blood related sisters, one who is a musician known from her stage name Queen Darleen and Esma Platinumz.

Despite this amazing feat by a Tanzanian we all know that Nigeria is still on top of it's game in the music world.

Facts

Davido’s and Burna Boy’s numbers are particularly impressive given they only opened their YouTube channels in 2018 but Diamond Platnumz has been on the platform since 2011.

Currently more than 43% of Tanzania’s 55 million people having access to the internet, mainly via mobile smartphones, there is a huge home-grown Swahili-speaking audience ready to lap up his love songs.
